Stokes Scoop
Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is hard to believe we are entering the final weeks of the 2024-2025 school year, it feels like we were just dancing our way into the first day of school! This year we have accomplished so much, we’ve experienced academic gains, we’ve made memories that will last a lifetime, and we have poured every ounce of ourselves into your children. It is our sincere hope that we’ve not only met your expectations this school year, but that we have exceeded them. Your support and encouragement means the world to us and it truly keeps us moving forward.

We wish you and your family a safe and memory filled summer! If this year marks the end of your #deervalleylife, we wish you all the best and remember, “Once a cheetah, always a cheetah!”

Finally, during my time as a classroom teacher I would send a letter to my families at the end of each school year. As the principal of this ridiculously amazing school, I am now sending this letter to you on behalf of every person who works to make Deer Valley the MAGICAL place that it is.

*************************************************************

We give you back your child, the same child you confidently entrusted to our care last fall. We give him/her back pounds heavier, inches taller, months wiser, more responsible, and more mature than then. Although they would have attained this growth in spite of us, it has been our pleasure and privilege to watch their personalities unfold day by day. We give him/her back reluctantly, for having spent nine months together in the confines of Deer Valley, we have grown close, have become a part of each other, and we shall always retain a little of each other.

Ten years from now if we meet on the street, a light will shine to our eyes, a smile to our faces, and we shall feel the bond of understanding once more, the bond we feel each day.

We have lived, loved, laughed, played, studied, learned, and enriched our lives together this year. We wish it could go on indefinitely, but give them back we must. Take care of him/her, for they are precious.

Remember that we shall always be interested in your child and his/her destiny, wherever they go, whatever they do, whatever they become. Their joys and sorrows we will always be happy to share.

From our hearts to yours,
The Deer Valley Family

Let's all show our appreciation and kindness to these special individuals as they prepare for this exciting new chapter. If you see them, a simple "Thank you!" for all they've done would mean so much. We wish all our future 2025 retirees a joyful and well-deserved retirement!

The Deer Valley library is looking for two more volunteers for the 2025-26 school year. Volunteering mostly includes shelving books and helping students check out or find books. Ideally, the training would be done this month. Then in August, the volunteer and Mrs. Sorkin will work together to find a consistent weekly time that works for both schedules - about an hour a week. If you think you would like to volunteer in the library, please contact Mrs. Sorkin, the DV librarian, at RSorkin@hoover.k12.al.us

Nurse Notes

Medication in the Health Room: With the school year ending soon, it's time to consider the medications your child has at school. Medications are not held in the Health Room from one school year to the next. Students are not allowed to carry their own medications home per the policy by the State Department of Education. Therefore, an adult will need to pick up your child’s medication by 12pm on May 22, 2025 Any medications left at school will be destroyed after 12pm on May 22nd.
Nurse Notes
5th Grade Parents: All students 11 years old and entering the sixth grade in Alabama must have a Tetanus, Diphtheria, Acellular Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine and have a new Certificate of Immunization after receiving this booster. You may present the new Certificate of Immunization to your current elementary/intermediate school until May 22, 2025, or to the student's assigned middle school during the summer. Schedule your appointments now to minimize the rush during the summer months.
