Where do I even begin in writing about my love for Deer Valley and the complete joy of serving as the assistant principal? I tell people that Deer Valley is my “home away from home” and there is truly not a day when I am not excited to walk in the building. People always comment that Deer Valley just has a “feeling” when you walk in that lets you know it is a special place. After spending the last nine years here, I can tell you that the thing that makes Deer Valley special is the people! We would not be where we are without the students, parents, teachers, and staff. Whatever role or connection you have to Deer Valley-it is a critical one in making the school the true “Disney World of Elementary Schools.” 

I was drawn to education because of my love for helping people and building relationships. As a teenager, I realized the best way for me to help people daily and build relationships would be as a special education teacher. When I first began as a special education teacher, I primarily thought I would be building relationships with students. Over the last nine years working as a special education teacher at Deer Valley, I learned that in education, the relationships I get to build are endless. As I transition into an administrative role, I am excited about the new relationships I will build and new people I can serve. 

There are few things more exciting to me than working collaboratively with a team to solve problems and overcome challenges with creative and innovative solutions. As a special education teacher, I regularly did this when I worked with IEP teams to develop plans for students that met their individual needs. As an administrator, I have the same passion and excitement about partnering with more families, teachers, and students to solve problems and dream big.  Ms. Stokes and I are truly committed to Deer Valley’s vision-to be a school where every teacher wants to teach, every student wants to learn, and every parent wants to send their child.
